I Don’t Need That!

We stepped onto the white sand. We had everything we needed for a day on the beach. Sunscreen, towels, sunglasses, ponytail holders…check, check, check, check! We found a spot close to the water’ s edge. We all put our towels down and began to apply the sunscreen. “Toosk, what are you doing? That’s not sunscreen; that’s suntan lotion. It has like no SPF!” She swore she didn’t need any SPF, that her brown skin would be just fine soaking in the rays of the caribbean sun. We watched as she sprayed herself from head to toe with the oily mist. Turns out that her brown skin did turn red. Actually we all turned red, regardless of our skin tone or SPF! We thought we’d spend the nights partying it up on the island- dancing, laughing, maybe meeting guys. Instead we spent our nights in the hotel room together, rubbing each other down with aloe, seeking relief from our burns. We still managed to dance and laugh, it was perfect. I wish the four of us could go back again one day, but somethings are only meant to happen once.

  1. Oh, Rebecca, that sounds awful actually. It has been a long time since I’ve been sunburned, and I hate it. It is hard to get protection with that immense mirror of the ocean shining the sun rays on you double time. Great post, and I’m glad you were still able to have fun that night in the hotel as you healed.

  2. I think a lot of us can relate to underestimating the sun’s rays bouncing off that white sand, making us a tad crispy. Glad you were able to still have some fun! A nice little memory slice.
